Silbriesti — the elven nation's proper name. Taniere refers to the people; Tir Hathar itself carries the "land" root from the same old naming tradition — see World History for the full etymology. Taniere — pronounced tan-YEAR

Territory: UK, Ireland, Netherlands. Geographically the most isolated nation on the map — separated from the continent by the Channel, with only a toe of territory in the Netherlands where the occasional Thorn slips through.

Government: Isolationist. "The Elves" as a political entity are not involved in human affairs.

Why isolationist: Multiple theories exist and none are mutually exclusive. The Elves remember the world before the Long War — the oldest among them were adults when it began, and they are the only living people who were. They watched 250 years of catastrophe unfold. They watched gods die. They did not intervene, or intervened too late, or made a calculation that they cannot now explain without what amounts to an admission of complicity. Magic: Elves practice Primal magic — entirely outside the school system. The moon-school academies have no jurisdiction over it and cannot fully study it.

Druids: Elves are druids. Druids are Elves. Non-Elf druids exist but answer to Elven authority — they trained under Elven masters and their magical legitimacy flows from that lineage, not from any human institution.

The Thorns: Elven eco-activists who operate outside official Elven political sanction. The war did too much damage to the world. Their goal is to repair it and remove rot — targeting anyone who continues causing damage regardless of nation or affiliation. "The Elves" can plausibly deny sanctioning them while quietly being proud of their work.

Military deterrent: Every military strategist in every nation has a file that says "do not provoke the Elves." The theoretical models of what an Elf-committed military force could do to supply lines, terrain, and weather are genuinely frightening. The Elves know everyone has that file. They have never had to demonstrate it.
